DESERT
& DELTA: Namibia and Botswana
(14 days/13
nights)
Swakopmund, Sossusvlei, Windhoek,
Skeleton Coast, Etosha National Park, Okavango Delta, Chobe, Victoria
Falls
This itinerary is designed to immerse
travelers in the most captivating destinations in Namibia and Botswana.
Start in the town of Swakopmund before departing for two nights
in Sossusvlei, in the heart of the southern Namib Desert. This is
a land of profound silence, where night skies are blanketed with
a canopy of stars and the world's highest dunes cast ghostly shadows
in the blood-red sand. Spend a night in Namibia's capital, Windhoek,
before embarking on one of the country's great journeys: a fly-in
safari along the Skeleton Coast. Combining breathtaking views with
a rare opportunity to meet the people who live in the remote desert,
this is truly a rare travel opportunity. Spend four days exploring
this awe-inspiring coastline; its evocative name comes from the
many mariners who lost kinsmen in shipwrecks off its shores. Explore
eerie remnants of lost ships and meet the semi-nomadic Himba people,
who live in the area. While here, you may be fortunate enough to
glimpse a desert-dwelling elephant, one of the world's rarest species.
Return to Windhoek for a night and check out the charming colonial
architecture and fine craft shopping. Next, fly to Etosha National
Park in one of Southern Africa's finest wildlife parks for two nights.
The few constant sources of water attract much of the region's indigenous
wildlife, including black rhino and rare antelopes. From Etosha,
head to Botswana, where you will spend a week at lodges that combine
unparalleled luxury with exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities.
Start with two nights at the Okavango Delta, where guided nature
walks, game drives, and traditional canoe excursions offer the chance
to experience this wilderness while still enjoying the creature
comforts of a luxury safari camp. From there, fly to Chobe, home
to thousands of elephants that visit the Chobe River each evening
to drink and bathe. Activities include excellent birding and game
viewing bysafari vehicle and small river craft. After two
nights, transfer to Victoria Falls for your international departure.
