THE
DAWN OF THE WORLD: Ethiopia and Kenya
(16 days/15
nights)
Nairobi, Maasai Mara, Lake Nakuru,
Addis Ababa, Lalibela, Gondar, Bahir Dar, Rift Valley National Park,
Lake Awassa
This tour takes you to the heart
of Kenya and then to Ethiopia's most historic cities and nature
parks. Start with two nights at Maasai Mara, the setting for one
of nature's most impressive annual spectacles: the Great Migration,
where hundreds of thousands of wildebeest traverse the savannah
with predators close at their heels. Next, travel to the quiet,
gem-like Lake Nakuru for two tranquil nights among the acacia woodlands
that surround this pristine lake. Travel to Nairobi for your flight
to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia's capital. From here, fly to Lalibela,
the site of Ethiopia's massive rock hewn churches and still the
center of a vibrant Christian tradition. After two nights, travel
to Gondar for touring of the castles and churches of this ancient
imperial capital, set at the base of the Simien Mountains. Drive
to Bahir Dar to explore Lake Tana's churches and monasteries; the
isolated location has protected the sacred manuscripts held here.
Return to Addis and then drive to the Rift Valley lakes Koka and
Ziway, whose shallow waters offer some of the best birding in Ethiopia.
After one night, continue to Awassa, visiting Abyata-Shalla National
Park en route. The lake in Awassa is well known for its abundant
fish and breathtaking scenery. The lake is surrounded by gentle
walking trails, offering superb views of the plentiful bird life.
Spend two relaxing nights exploring the area before returning to
Addis Ababa for your international departure.
