THE FOOTSTEPS OF ANDERSON: A DELUXE SAFARI
(13 days/12
nights)
Waterburg Plateau, Etosha, Southern
Damaraland, Swakopmund, Namib Naukluft, Windhoek
This remarkable program follows
in the footsteps of Charles John Anderson, a Swedish explorer who
embarked on an epic journey into the heart of Namibia in 1850. Experience
the life-changing grandeur and beauty of the country in the height
of comfort, staying in luxurious safari tents and the country's
finest lodges. Start with a night in a luxury lodge in the transition
zone between the Central Highlands and the Kalahari Desert. This
is your point of departure for exploring the nearby Waterburg Plateau,
rising above the surrounding bush and savannah. The plateau is home
to rare plants, animals, and birds which will be pointed out to
you by your guide, who will also bring to life the historical significance
of the area in modern Namibian history. Next, travel north to your
exclusive campsite in a private game reserve near Etosha National
Park. Explore the park, where you may see black rhino. Spend two
nights here before traveling to the western side of the park. Spend
a night at Okakuejo, whose floodlit waterhole allows excellent viewing
of elephant, giraffe, black rhino and lion. Travel to southern Damaraland
for two nights at a private campsite. Spend two days exploring what
is arguably Namibia's most stunning region. Ancient San rock carvings
are found in the hills. Flat-topped mountains, ochre grasses, and
strange stunted mopane trees create a unique habitat for desert
elephants, leopard, and black rhino which maintain a furtive existence
in this challenging landscape. Many travelers consider this to be
their favorite corner of Namibia. After two nights here, drive to
the popular coastal town of Swakopmund for two nights. Explore Cape
Cross' colony of 80,000 fur seals, and take a cruise around Walvis
Bay, one of the region's most important centers for bird life and
dolphins. Next, fly to the Namib Naukluft Park, whose landscape
encompasses mountains, desert plains, and high sand dunes. This
afternoon, drive to the famous Sossusvlei dunes, whose color changes
in the shifting light. Your exclusive campsite is in a sanctuary
for zebra, springbok, and more. Spend two nights here, exploring
the gorges and valleys of this stunning region before returning
to Windhoek for your departure flight.
