On The Road with Ken Fish

Travel is a privilege that I never fail to appreciate. But given the fact that I have the fortunate opportunity to travel in style to some of the world's most exotic destinations, it would be easy to understand how at times I might become somewhat spoiled. That was not the case, however, on my most recent trips to Australia and New Zealand.

At every turn is an incredible yet different splendor. Travel no more than one to two hours from any major Australian city and you will encounter stunning and magnificent sights. Wine valleys, fabulous beaches, scenic mountain ranges, wildlife reserves, and lush rainforests and hinterland all await the traveler within short range of Australia's urban centers.

The great tourist icons such as Uluru (Ayers Rock) and the Great Barrier Reef are well known, but traveling beyond them brings many other lesser-known wonders: Western Australia's deserted coastlines and Kimberly Ranges; the Northern Territory's Aboriginal Arnhemland; South Australia's Flinders Ranges; Victoria's Great Ocean Road; or Tasmania's Cradle Mountain and Freycinet National Parks.

New Zealand's striking beauty is enhanced by its lack of a sizable population. Beyond the major cities, luxury lodges and charming inns allow travelers to comfortably enjoy some of the country's most beautiful destinations, surrounded by thousands of acres of pristine coastline, scenic mountains, and verdant countryside. Climb aboard a luxury yacht in the Bay of Islands or Hauraki Gulf and visit virtually uninhabited island hideaways.

A trip to the South Pacific need not focus strictly on major tourist gateways to be satisfying, and I encourage our clients to include at least one off the beaten track adventure to really enjoy all that these destinations have to offer.
