OUR YESTERDAYS: The Heart of East Africa
(18 days/17
nights)
Kenya and Tanzania: Nairobi, Samburu,
Maasai Mara, Lake Manyara, Ngorongoro Crater, Zanzibar
Many travelers find East Africa
alluring because of the wild and timeless flavor of the land. Some
of the world's oldest archaeological remains have been discovered
here, and wild animals continue to roam freely on the awe-inspiring
landscape. Your East African journey starts with two nights in Nairobi,
where you may wish to visit the excellent archaeological museum
in addition to your city touring. Next, fly to Samburu, where the
Ewaso Ngira River provides some relief to the harsh arid landscape.
Spend two days exploring this stark land and learning about the
Samburu people that live on it. Next, fly to the Maasai Mara National
Park, located directly in the path of Great Migration; "the
Mara" is an excellent base from which to explore the grasslands
and the wildlife that have been on this land since time immemorial.
After three nights, travel to Tanzania's Lake Manyara, where brilliant
blue water is surrounded by green forested mountains. You will spend
two nights at Lake Manyara before traveling to the Ngorongoro Crater,
a microcosm of East African scenery and game. While here, make sure
to explore the Olduvai Gorge, where scientists believe human life
originated and where many Leakey family archaeological discoveries
were made. Game drives or walks through the bush are the best ways
to experience this land. Conclude your trip with three days on the
island of Zanzibar, located off the coast of Tanzania. The "Spice
Island" offers a fascinating cultural history, or, for those
who prefer some leisure time, plenty of gorgeous beaches and recreational
activities.
